Temporary restriction on vehicles movement, introduced to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in Uzbekistan, has significantly reduced the emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere in Surkhandarya region.
According to the Regional Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection, experts calculated that since the establishment of restrictions on automobile movement in the oasis, the release of more than 6300 tons of harmful gases into the atmosphere has been prevented.
More than 170 thousand vehicles are registered in the southern oasis. Of these, 88.2 percent accounted for by the private sector. An average of 78 thousand tons of harmful substances were released into the atmosphere each year. UzA.uz.
