Allah Most High says in Surah al-Hijr:
“And the jinn We created before, from piercing (samum) fire” (Verse 27)
However, the jinn are actually the devil. Just as Adam is the source of man, so is Satan, the source of the jinn.
The word “piercing” (samum) in the dictionary means a warm wind like a fire. The heat of hell is also called the sumum. This is the origin of the devil. It is mentioned here that the jinn were created before human.
The jinn have offspring. Allah Most High says in Surah al-Kahf:
“We said to the angels, “Bow down to Adam.” So they bowed down, except for Satan. He was of the jinn, and he defied the command of his Lord. Will you take him and his offspring as lords instead of Me, when they are an enemy to you? Evil is the exchange for the wrongdoers.” (Verse 50)
This ayah indicates that the devil was of the jinn and that he had offspring.
The jinn see us and we do not see them. Allah Most High says in Surah al-A'raf:
“O Children of Adam! Do not let Satan seduce you, as he drove your parents out of the Garden, stripping them of their garments, to show them their nakedness. He sees you, him and his clan, from where you cannot see them. We have made the devils friends of those who do not believe.” (Verse 27)
So the possibilities of the jinn are greater than that of a human. Man does not see Satan, but Satan sees man. This, in turn, gives Satan extra chances and requires man extra vigilance. Because one must always be vigilant against the evil of Satan, who is an open enemy. It requires strong faith and pure belief.
